Procedure
At Muralicious, it is my aim to make the design process and execution as easy on you as possible. An initial meeting will begin the design process. At this point I will show you through my portfolio, take measurements, assess the existing decor and make suggestions on how the mural or trompe l'oeil artwork can best enhance your living space. If you have any ideas, photographs or images in mind, I can work with you on how best to fit these images into your space. With this information I will design a thumbnail sketch of your mural. This sketch will give you an idea of what to expect and allow you to make any changes before the work on the wall is started. The sketch also helps me to determine the quote for the mural. If any budget adjustments are required, I can demonstrate on the sketch what can be changed or altered to bring it into budget. Similarly, if you have a pre-determined budget, I can provide a design with this in mind. At this point, I can also let you know how long the mural will take to paint. There is no charge for meetings or the initial sketch. However, if you require a number of alternative sketches to choose from, there may be a design fee depending on the number of alternatives and the complexity of the designs. This may range from $50.00 to $150.00. If you choose to proceed with the mural, this fee will be deducted from the cost of the mural. On approval of the sketch, we will establish a date to begin work on the mural. Although I attempt to begin as soon as possible, it often depends on existing contracts awaiting completion. I will strive to work on your mural in a timely manner without sacrificing detail or quality. However, any changes you may request during the painting process may impede on time as well as add to the cost of the mural. Once working in large scale, I may find that simple changes or additions will further enhance the mural. If this happens I will discuss my ideas with you, and if you approve, these additions will be of no charge to you. If you have any questions or concerns through the painting process, please don't hesitate to ask. A change to the design is much easier during the process, than after completion.
Pricing & Budget Considerations Pricing of murals and decorative work can vary dramatically. There are four main factors that will influence the time it takes to paint a mural, and in turn affect cost: 1) Detail - This is most important. The
more detailed the work, the longer it will take to paint. I will always strive to work within a budget that is comfortable with you. However, it is always worth considering that the finer details are what makes a mural, trompe l'oeil artwork or canvas art so dynamic. Sacrificing attention to detail can also sacrifice the quality of the work. In some cases, such as a nursery, the detail may not be as important. However, in living spaces such as dining, living and bed rooms a more sophisticated approach is required, and this can only be achieved by attention to detail. This is even more important in portrait art, where the smallest details are what captures the very character of the subject. All pricing includes materials, unless something unusual is required. This would include such things as scaffold or lift hire and specialty or house paints. Pricing for these items will be included in the initial quote, so there are no surprises at the end. Once we have agreed on a price and final design I do require a deposit to confirm a booking. One half deposit, with the remainder due on completion of the mural is required. In case of cancellation, I will give a full refund of the deposit, unless it is within 14 days of the scheduled start date, in which case I will refund the deposit minus a 10% late cancellation fee. It is my pleasure to help you with any questions you may have in the process of beginning your custom artwork, so please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to working with you.
